K2 inline skates (rollerblades) are a great option,
probably bigger wheels (90 or 100) for smoother roll over rough stuff, and/or
a longer frame for point to point roadskating, or
for tricks of course, shorter frame length makes arcs and spins easier.
Salomon makes great inline skates and has seemed to support them well, but there were some frames a few years back with problems and I think the company has been sold so it may be wait and see time.
Rollerblade is making some interesting inline skates but I note they still liked heavy kits when last I looked. The Problade boot looks pretty good if you get the kit with the box frame that's Mogema-ish rather than the earlier, thinner model we've seen bashed.
Those are my quick thoughts on that. i'll post this to rsn2 also.

Oh I wish this were about fine grind espresso wafting through the air, but no. Of first blush it seems hopeful, even. I wonder. The City Council of Corpus Christi, TX has authorized the Police to write tickets up to $500 for skaters grinding city property. That's cool because it's about grinding not rolling, as Police Chief Bryan Smith explains...

I've been cooking this up for a little while now and want to make the announcement even though the website isn't quite polished yet....
I will be teaching a skating workshop in Raleigh, NC the weekend of March 24, 2007. This workshop is targetting beginner speedskaters and recreational/fitness skaters. The workshop is part of my fundraising for Tour to Tanglewood, which benefits Multiple Sclerosis Society.

I have changed the terminology from biking to skating in the press-release from Transportation Alternatives to underscore the impact of the proposed new rules on our community. Theoretically, every point applies to skaters, even the requirement to carry a bell.
The NYPD already has the rules needed to keep order in the streets. They have traffic laws, prohibitions against disorderly conduct, and a host of other rules. In short, there is no need for the police to create new rules to suppress non-vehicular transportation.
Speaker Christine Quinn is supporting the new rules. Make sure she knows that you don't by using the links provided. Alan has given you her answer to the initial notice, when you get that first answer, send another note of concerned opposition. Write also to your council-member.

Did anyone see the article about the little Indian girl (Gwalior, India) who skated under 40 cars with only 8 or so inches of clearance? I kept trying to find a place where the video was clearer, but it always shows up looking neon green like a negative image or something. Either way, that girl would be a total LIMBO CHAMPION!!! My son and I always do the limbo when we go skating... I used to win it every time... *sigh* not now.

Just a quick note about the prologue we have for team members to meet each other on Fri, Sep 8, 2006 at 5 pm.
This is optional but really great if you can do it so you can meet the team, hear our special tour route updates, make sure you understand everything for the weekend, etc.
Any skaters who find themselves amongst the lonely mansions and shiny metal boxes of Gwinnett County, GA, might want to check out Tribble Mill Park as a little piece of heaven plus hills.

Elizabeth and I missed the chance to travel to Winston-Salem for the T2T training ride last weekend, but we did a couple of fun things instead.
On Saturday we went out to Tribble Mill Park, near a great intersection non-town named New Hope (as the GPS map and church names nearby confirm) which we had been to before, but some time ago. It is now a nice place to skate if you don't mind some twisty hills on multiuse pathway! We made our way fine going counterclockwise, but think we'll try clockwise next time to see if it might be better due to the route and elevations. If you're willing to brake or scrub wheels, it's an awesome 3.2 miles, in fact. There is some roadway there that might be interesting too, particularly a way hilly loop, but we'd need to look at it again to see if it's safe enough to try. I'm sure we'll have more on this later.

Absolutely. The Anniston Star gets it right in their opinion that shows their excitement about the "bridge in the middle of nowhere" and the paving of the last sections between Anniston AL and Smyrna GA hopefully in 2007. We've been there and we've seen the growth in ways we love and hate, but have to look upon with awe.

This sounds like a major commitment from a leading metropolitan area to boost cycling. I can't tell you how good that could be for all of us if cycling can start to be taken seriously (again?), and particularly if law enforcement will support the efforts of roadsharers everywhere. It's a long way before auto drivers will see inline roadskaters the same as roadcyclists, even, but the more it improves for cyclists, the better for all human powered transportation modes. Of note in this article is increased funding. Hope it turns out great! Blake

No we're not claiming to be a real university or anything like that, but we do love skating, and you can contribute to the world's knowledge, certified or not, official or not, about skating instruction for private lessons, group lessons, or as part of coaching individuals or teams, indoor or out, any kind of skating.
Not a bad article in this past weekend's Washington Post about converting a road bike to fixed gearing. If you've never tried it, riding a bike that doesn't coast and that only has one gear is more fun than you might guess.
The Saturday evening excursion of the 2006 Philly Freedom Skate had several skaters' lives flashing before their eyes! One stretch of the route back in to town from the Merion Station, NW of Philly, had those of us at the 'front of the pack' flying full-speed into a hairpin-bend like downhill.

Raleigh recently was hit by a storm that did some damage to some of the trails which have been discussed on InlineNC and TSC, but I was lucky enough to skate the Capital Area Greenway before that.
Transportation Alternatives has announced the withdrawal of Intro 276, which would have closed Central Park to all motorized traffic for the summer.
