Hi and welcome! TourtoTanglewood.com is a special part of Roadskater.net for anyone who loves, or thinks they might grow to love, the awesome 2-day 90-mile Tour to Tanglewood skride for Multiple Sclerosis. Here at Roadskater.net we have a charity inline skating and cycling team, and we'd like for you to join us for the Tour!

I have been out of touch for a few weeks after some long distance skating and the prep and skating and wrap (still ongoing) of our Roadskater.net team charity efforts. Last night was the awards dinner for the Tour to Tanglewood, and it was a transitional day for several reasons, all good. Then I came home wanting to get some computer work done and maybe watch some tele, mostly something meaningless and useless.

Inline Skating 44 Miles on the Silver Comet Trail (Slowly). How About Your Recent Workouts?

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on March 22, 2009 - 10:00pm.

No matter how far or not, how fast or not, I love to hear people's stories of skating. Ten words or a hundred paragraphs, tell us what you've been skating, cycling, lifting, or anything. Or just tell me what's up lately. So here's my freewriting exercise. I'll try to type it out once and not do editing other than spelling and such...

Well, eebee and I went out for a long skate today, thinking we would do about 30 or 32 miles. She's been training to skate and I've been training to type, read, watch p2p tv of sporting events, so you can imagine who had the lower heart rate, ha!

Double Yes! Shani Davis USA Second World Record in 24 Hours (1000m), Marsicano Second Again

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on March 8, 2009 - 1:33am.

Yay! I can't wait to see some of this racing. Things are looking good for next year's Olympics! This is from a good piece worth a look below...

Speedskater Trevor Marsicano had never skated especially fast in the 1,000 meters, by international racing standards. His best time ranked only modestly inside the top 100 of all-time.

First, if you are thinking about going to a G-Rated movie about a plush toy known for being soft and cuddly and emulating an animal that reproduces wildly, please don't go. We need to not fall for their plan...In a WORLD where rapidly reproducing rodents robodial. In a TIME when voices are digitally stored. Suddenly your CELL PHONE RINGS. DO NOT ANSWER OR YOUR SOUL IS AT RISK! In a SEASON when cell phone companies, the FCC and State Attorneys General are the ONLY ones on whom you MUST DEPEND. You are in a HEAP O'TROUBLE. PRAY you don't take the call, when the ROBORODENT RINGS YOUR CELL!

OK. I used to eat at Lucky 32 often, maybe twice weekly sometimes, and I love how it's a nice place to go eat where you can dress up if you like, or not. I have always loved the decor and the graphics of their marketing. I get a real kick out of how they had fabric made for their upholstery that carries forth the L32 motif. That L32 logo is genius (you can see it at the bottom of this article).

Tour of California 2009 Stage 8: Frank Schleck Outsprints Nibali; Hincapie Third; Leipheimer, Zabriske, Rogers Make Tour Podium

roadskater's picture

Stage 8 was great for viewing except for the many in number but few in percentage fans, who ran for their own glory and fifteen seconds of fame. At times times these selfans impeded the cyclists, it seemed.

The time trial seemed like it might be the only way to shake things up, and that it did, with some doubt by the end of the day whether Levi Leipheimer might be passed in the overall (GC, general classification) by David Zabriske, the USA road Time Trial champ.

Stage 5 was another good one, but I wasn't able to catch it all. I did see Cavendish win again, this time just a bit further ahead than the day before, giving him more time to mug for the cams.

30,000-Square-Foot Roller Rink Opens in Manhattan 8th Ave 59th Street New York City

While researching some roller and inline topics last night I came across a wonderful news item about the first night in a new skating rink about to open. With 30,000 square feet of rolling space, this place would hold a ton of skaters for a fad sweeping the nation.

In December of 1884. Almost 125 years ago!

Fabian Cancellara Wins Tour of California Prologue: Levi Leipheimer 2nd, David Zabriske 3rd, Armstrong 10th

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on February 14, 2009 - 7:55pm.

OK I got back just in time to watch some of the eventual leaders come in. Svein Tuft hung on for 9th, and finished ahead of Lance Armstrong, who finished 10th, by a tenth of a second or so. Something to remember for Tuft, I'm sure.

At the front, it's no surprise the Fabian Cancellara was tops. Levi was 2nd, 1.2 seconds behind. It had begun to rain lightly by the time Floyd Landis and Levi Leipheimer had hit the course, so I wonder if Levi might have done a touch better without that spinkles...but that's racing, as they say.

Yes it will be live on Vs. network, but I don't get that, having given up cable vision (though I still have cable internet, hoping to ditch that for fiber optic).

It appears there'll be live video (at least one stream) plus gps tracking and timing and placement info on the tracker section of the official site...

Surprise! Lance Armstrong Drops Drug-Testing Program as Too Hard, Too Expensive

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on February 12, 2009 - 12:13am.

First, let me say, I want to hear from anyone who believes Lance rode clean for 7 TdF wins. I'd like to believe. I love believing. So let me know what you think if you like, even if you think I am totally wrong!

And don't get me wrong. That Livestrong thing is awesome. Now to begin...

Ahh. I get it. I have to say I was skeptical about Lance's testing program, but it appeared he had hired a reputation (I mean someone with a great reputation) who would administer the program scrupulously. Now, it turns out, maybe that was the problem?

High Point NC Woman Speedskater Makes the Transition from Inline to Ice for the Olympics

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on February 9, 2009 - 9:17pm.

A few years ago at the US10K I met Heather Richardson from High Point Speed, just briefly, not a long chat or anything. But it was clear she was a powerful skater even at 10K, which is lots longer than most indoor types really want to do very often (that's a lot of laps on the tiny indoor inline circuits). The Greensboro News & Record has a nice story on her, point out that...

Richardson, a 19-year-old from High Point, is the reigning U.S.
champion in long-track speedskating's sprint events and recently
finished 20th at the World Sprints.

Greensboro NC Making a Bid to be the Home of the U.S. Cycling Hall of Fame

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on January 28, 2009 - 12:29pm.

Another sidebar news item...WRAL reports that the Greensboro News and Record reports that Greensboro has "made the cut" in bidding to become the new home of the United States Cycling Hall of Fame. Supposedly GSO is in the "final four." Who knows how significant this could be, but at least it shows there are people in Greensboro trying to bring more visitors to the city, especially those who are interested in bicycling and other forms of active transportation. Thanks to Neil Belenky and the rest of the Greensboro task force involved in making the application.

Fresh Snow, Dreams Deferred, Two Young Friends of Decades Past, President Obama, the United States, and the Inauguration of 2009

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on January 21, 2009 - 6:52am.

After some days of often solitary study, testing, learning, failures and some successes (think Ubuntu Server, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Nginx, lighttpd, Memcache, Varnish, Squid, Alternative PHP Cache), I drifted to sleep as though it were the night before Christmas. Would there be snow? Would there be joy? So I awoke early on Inauguration Day 2009 with anticipation, and yes, my world had been treated to a fresh forgiveness of snow outside.

Skating in the New Year 2009 in Glenwood Neighborhood of Greensboro North Carolina

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on January 1, 2009 - 2:48am.

This year we wimped a bit on the skating in the new year bit, but we did go out for 20 or 30 minutes in Glenwood neighborhood, eebee and myself. The temp was in the upper 20s so we didn't stay out too long. We took a few photos, and I'll probably include a couple of them here. Enjoy.

Where Do Those TSA and Other Security Confiscated Pen Knives, Manicure Scissors, Skate Tools Go? How About Stolen Guitars?

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on November 20, 2008 - 4:03pm.

I bet you've had a skate tool taken now and then at airport security, right? I did. I had a somewhat sentimental first edition roadskater.net (home-branded) long handle Allen wrench taken when I boarded with my skates, forgetting to put the tool in luggage. They were entirely uncaring and unhelpful of course.

Maybe USPS could have Priority Mail boxes and APCs there and we could mail them to ourselves! The government would make some money but at least in the service of us keeping our personal stuff, instead of them making money off our personal stuff. Huh?

Dopers, Testers, Tests, Lance Armstong, Tour de France, Vuelta, Giro, Garmin-Chipotle

roadskater's picture
Submitted by roadskater on October 24, 2008 - 12:40am.

Well the Tour de France route for 2009 has come out, and there's some new old stuff, like the Team Time Trial is back. Some say this makes Lance Armstrong more likely to show up, some say less, and he seems to want some assurances from the organizers about respectful treatment or some such.

Meanwhile Contador sounded welcoming at first, but lately perhaps less so, and Vino's name has surfaced as well. Nothing solid here from me...just some impressions.
