RAGBRAI is a week long beer party with a bike ride interupting the fun. I wished I'd met you, I heard there was a guy on skates! My week was spent on a bike, having FUN and DRINKING BEER. My feet and legs would never have survived on skates.

OK. Only 15 miles for those dates! Last weekend was entirely absorbed by jersey communications, design issues, photos, color swatches in various kinds of light, and excuses! I'm going skatin'.

Hey gang, Week #5 of the skateymiles project was from 7/26 to 8/1/09. If you get a moment, check your logs and report you skate miles. Together, we are crushin' some miles and really boosting Vivian's totals quite nicely. Thanks!

First I deleted the 'courses' --- no good.  Then I remembered that the device got hung up transmitting data to the Garmin.Connect site, so I retried to upload all workouts.  This time the all workouts made it online (but not to my desktop computer Garmin software).

One funny thing showed up:  a rogue workout was in the data that drew a bee line from one town to another -- 24 miles long and straight as an arrow.  Plus the bee line added itself the the prior workout and to one a few days after.  I deleted all this bad data but the device still would not talk to my desktop.

So, being satisfied that at least the data uploaded somewhere, I did a hard reset of the unit and started over.  It has yet to be tested but I sure hope this fixes it.

It was just too cool, and went by way too fast - literally.  I am so pumped to go faster.  Truly, it didn't feel that fast.  The hum of the wheels was getting louder and the rush of the wind was 'breezier' toward the end but all and all I felt in great control.

It looks like eebee will be here, plus two escapees from indoor will be starting their roadskating season in earnest. One of our roadskater.net t2t team members has recently won age group gold in the nationals in the five lap and ten lap races, I believe, setting an age group record for the fiver methinks. We'll have to see what we can hear about it all this weekend. Paceline uses a good route and has had good police support even to the end when coming back onto Battleground for a brief sprint stint at the end of the ride. Come on out! It's free and support is always awesome.

  • Reply to: Measuring jerseys   9 years 19 weeks ago

That's funny I did measurements this week too.

We talked about how it's good to measure a jersey you love then ask the mf'er to measure theirs that way too. That's if you can get the mf'er's salesperson to care enough to go get a jersey in a particular size, then you trust them to measure the chest at the armpits. But even bad measurements will come closer than wild guesses most of the time.

That's where I've come to have my opinions and where I changed my saying "if on the border go UP a size" to "if on the border go DOWN a size." I think the sunlit leaves and deep violet are smaller by an inch in the SHORTsleeve and half an inch in the sleeveLESS. The original sky and most recent tangerine are about the same size I think. My figures differed from yours by an inch, which might be from how much we stretched the fabric, whether we measured it on a horizontal surface or hanging, and other factors. I think the arm holes may be a bit roomier on the tangerine too, but last year's sleeveLESS were remade based on our complaints so this is likely not relevant or at least accurate, so I'll leave that out of the measurements. I got these figures for the chest just below the sleeves on a flat (but soft, unfortunately) surface, avoiding stretching the fabric...

    Tangerine
    sleeveLESS 23.5
    Sunlit Leaves
    sleeveLESS 23
    Deep Violet sleeveLESS 23
    Sky sleeveLESS 23.5
    Tangerine
    SHORTsleeve
    24
    Sunlit Leaves
    SHORTsleeve 23
    Deep Violet
    SHORTsleeve 23
    Sky SHORTsleeve 24

I don't trust the mf'er's size chart yet, so until I do we'll go with what we've used before and just change the borderline cases from choose down to choose up, to repeat it again.

As far off as the measurements are, we both come to the same conclusion about the Tangerine being larger than the previous two years, and I learned what I've felt some days in my stomach...that the sky jersey was just a bit more forgiving. Now how this relates to the future, I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to say I think jersey creep is on...to save our pride if nothing else.

http://www.geartrade.com looks interesting, but I haven't actually ordered anything through it yet, so can't vouch for it personally. Mix of used and discounted new stuff.

For some reason Iowa mornings tend to be damp, even on bright sunny days.

I brought Simmons custom racing boots + Rollerblade Lightning 10.  They don't dry completely but could be worse/grosser.

The 10000 official slots run out every year.  Individual participants enter a lottery system.  Supposed there were spots on ebay.

Lots of participants from Chicago, Texas, and various Iowa cities.
