A Moment of Silence for Mr. Gatorade

Gatorade inventor, Robert Cade died today, aged 80. Here's a yahoo news report. In the obit, Cade is quoted as saying that when he first drank (an early version of?) Gatorade, he threw up. It also says that the company that took over the licensing rights, Stokely - Van Camp, hated the name Gatorade, but found out that the name was a hit with the general public, so they left it.

All I can say is thank you for helping me stay out of the emergency room on many a 90 degree F day, Mr. Cade!

Inline Skating Hill Climbing Video

Being one who is always trying to improve on my skating technique, I keep an eye on the skate forums for help and tips from those more experienced than myself. I ran across an entry on hill climbing and seeing as how this is an area I can always use improvement on I checked it out.

Glasgow Scotland UK 2014 Games Bring Inline Skating and Cycling Velodrome

As part of the Commonwealth Games in 2014, Glasgow, Scotland, UK will be getting an indoor cycling velodrome which will also house an "inline skating facility." I wondered if that might be a banked track within the velodrome like they have in Florida and Colorado (outdoor tracks, both), or if it will be just some area to skate in while cyclists fly by on a wooden track. That's not so bad! I wondered if there's any chance inline skating will be included as a demonstration sport, but the list of sports, while including netball, fails to include skating as far as I could tell.

Texas Flyers at the inaugural Houston Inline Marathon

It was a fun and relaxing weekend with a nice hotel.
Wish more skaters were there.

Double Push Video

I just watched a video of a skater on a skatemill. What a lot of expensive fun! He can even see himself on the tv and check his technique.

This fella probably wasn't even trying and he makes it look easy. Great side-view and back-view for the purpose of pausing the clip where you need it, for many an ahah-moment.

Laziness & Healing Time: Pulled Hamstring Muscle

Somehow back in mid-September I pulled part of my hamstring. It wasn't a big strain, and I have absolutely no idea how I did it. I am tee-total so it's not like I woke up one day with mysterious injuries from the night before. The pulled muscle was bothersome enough to where doing endless parking-lot crossovers led to discomfort and instability. It must've been my monster underpush :-)...

Bont Semi-Race Skate Review

I followed Bont's message board when I heard they were developing the Semi-Race skate.  Intrigued by the lower 3 pt./4 100 design and the super light-weight, I thought I would treat myself, and treat, I did!  While I've never owned a Bont before, the features and the price of these skates got me.  In fact, I supposedly got the first pair to enter the USA.
